"I started to create some more skills... to set myself up for financial success. I've also made sure I didn't have any debt." - Suzanne Wentley
There's something powerful about meeting people who've completely transformed their lives. As I sat down with digital nomad, Suzanne Wentley, who joined me from her temporary home - a sailboat in the Solomon Islands - I couldn't help but be inspired by her journey from burned-out journalist to thriving digital nomad.
Breaking Free
"I started traveling in 2015. I was living in Florida at the time. I moved there after graduating from New York University. I had studied journalism and politics. So I had a number of, I would say high stress jobs actually out of college." - Suzanne Wentley
Like many of us, she was caught in that endless cycle of work with barely enough time to dream about something different. But what struck me most was how methodically she approached her transition to freedom.
Creating Income That Travels With You
What I love about Suzanne's approach is how she didn't just quit her job and hope for the best. Instead, she strategically built multiple income streams before making the leap.
She started with her existing journalism skills and gradually expanded into new areas. From writing for sailing magazines to teaching yoga and offering coaching services, she proved that you can combine your passions with profit.
The Reality of Remote Work
"I never had this, as a freelancer, I never had this like nine to five. And I know some digital nomads that… they go to the coworking space and they sit down and there they go." - Suzanne Wentley
In my own journey as a digital nomad, I've learned that success isn't trying to replicate office life in exotic locations, but finding a rhythm that works for you. Some of us thrive in coworking spaces, while others prefer working from home.
A New Perspective on Freedom
"The more adaptable you are, right? The only way that you can be adaptable is if you free yourself from these attachments." - Suzanne Wentley
Suzanne suggests a more holistic approach to freedom. Working remotely is liberating yourself from traditional constraints, whether they're physical, mental, or emotional.
